Jackson Katz: violence against women- its a men’s Issue

Jackson Katz is an anti-sexism educator, thought leader and feminist. He posits that violence against women should not be seen as a men’s issue and it is up to both men and women to make a change. What struck me most about this talk is when he mentioned that as society, we should become less tolerant about gender based violence, private jokes amongst friends promoting or eluding to violence/harassment/degradation should not be tolerated. It’s not funny. If you can’t make the same joke about race then one shouldn’t make jokes about violence against women. Change is a continuum.

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemy but the silence of our friends…”- Dr Martin Luther King
